Windows 7 tricks, tweaks and hidden features

Sorry Friends, Been busy these days due to exams and placements. In 2-3 days i will be completely offline so there will be no posting in this blog for about 3 months. Lately i found out many tricks, which i decided to share with you guys and will post in the next season (just kidding).

Many of you are so much habituated to windows 7 and probably know about it a lot. Here are some best hidden features ( or tricks, tweaks.... whatever you wish to call it) that i found out while passing away time without preparing for exams. :) Hope you will enjoy it.

1.Change the background of Windows Media Player:

Windows Media Player provides the option to change the background is not perfect, but we have to follow these steps to change the background of Windows Media Player. So, the problem is not to change it through the registry in Windows 7 is the trick:

1) Go to run and "Regedit" type registry editor will open.
2) In the registry editor, locate the key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ MediaPlayer \ Preferences
3) Click on the key LibraryBackgroundImage 0 6 (no background in each data) between the value of the double.

2.Use hidden international wallpapers and themes:

When you first install Windows 7, it asks for your language, time and currency. Based on your responses, it installs a set of wallpapers and themes. If you choose English (United States) for your time and currency format, for example, the available desktop backgrounds and themes will include a United States section with scenery from locations such as Maine, the Southwest and so on.
Hidden, though, are background scenery and themes from other English-speaking countries -- Australia, Canada, Great Britain and South Africa. Normally, you can't access those backgrounds or themes, but there is a simple way you can install and use them:
1. In the search box in the Start menu, type C:\Windows\Globalization\MCT and press Enter. (Note: If Windows 7 is installed in a drive other than C:, use that letter instead.)
2. Windows Explorer will launch and show you a list of subfolders under C:\Windows\Globalization\MCT. Each sub folder has wallpapers for a specific country: AU for Australia, CA for Canada, GB for Great Britain, US for the United States, and ZA for South Africa. Double-click the theme you see there.

3. That will install a shortcut to the theme and wallpapers in the Personalization section of Control Panel.

3. Windows 7 Keyboard Shortcuts :

Well  keyboard shortcuts are very useful while working on any OS with these shortcuts you can speed up your work,
  • Win+Up Arrow and Win+Down Arrow maximize and restore/minimize
  • Win+M minimizes everything
  • Alt+Up, Alt+Left Arrow, Alt+Right Arrow navigate to parent folder, or browse Back and Forward through folders in Explorer
  • Win+Home minimizes/restores all open windows except the active window
  • Alt+Win+# accesses the Jump List of program number ‘#’ on the taskbar
  • Win+Left Arrow and Win+Right Arrow dock the window to the left and right side of the screen.
4.
Get a power efficiency report:

Have a laptop and want to get more battery life out of it? Windows 7 includes a hidden built-in tool that will examine your laptop's energy use and make recommendations on how to improve it. To use it:
1. Run a command prompt as an administrator. To do this, type cmd in the search box, and when the cmd icon appears, right-click it and choose "Run as administrator".
2. At the command line, type in the following:
powercfg -energy -output \Folder\Energy_Report.html
where \Folder represents the folder where you want the report to be placed.
3. For about a minute, Windows 7 will examine the behavior of your laptop. It will then analyze it and create a report in HTML format in the folder you specified. Double-click the file, and you'll get a report. Now follow its recommendations for ways to improve power performance.

More will follow soon.....Stay tuned friends...
