Add Sticky Notes & Other Widgets To Windows 8 Lock Scree

It’s probably safe to say that Windows 8 has garnered mixed reactions from its user-base. But where elements like the Start Screen have received some backlash, one dainty new feature that is praised is the lock screen. The lock screen showcases the current time and date, along with the Wi-Fi signal strength. You can customize its background and have certain apps display notifications on it. Apart from this, there isn’t much to tinker with, but it seems third-party apps are soon going to remedy that. Enter  TuneUp IncrediLock , a Windows Store app that lets you add widgets to the lock screen. Even though IncrediLock only lets you add sticky notes at the moment, additional widgets are likely to be added later down the road. What’s more, you can browse and apply about 400 gorgeous lock screen wallpapers. TuneUp IncrediLock is a lightweight app (around 1MB in size). You can hit the link provided at the end of the review to download the app from the Windows Store, or open the Sto

Setup your own Proxy Server for Free

Do a simple Google search like “proxy servers” and you’ll find dozens of  PHP proxy scripts on the Internet that will help you create proxy servers in minutes for free. The only limitation with PHP based proxies is that you require a web server to host the proxy scripts and second, you also need a domain name to act as an address for your proxy site. If you don’t own a domain or server space, you can still create a personal proxy server for free and that too without requiring any technical knowledge. Create a Free Proxy Server with Google App Engine Here’s one such  proxy site  that you can build for your friends in China or even for your personal use (say for  accessing blocked sites  from office). This is created using Google App Engine and, contrary to what you may think, the setup is quite simple. Step 1 : Go to  appengine.google.com  and sign-in using your Google Account. Step 2 : Click the “Create an Application” button. Since this is your first time, Google will

32-bit versus 64-bit

Will this 32-bit software run on my 64-bit operating system? or Will this 64-bit software run on my computer? If you’ve asked these questions then this tutorial should help you to understand the concepts of 32-bit and 64-bit computing. We’ll look at your computer system as three parts: the hardware, the operating system and the application programs. At the end we’ll look at some of the common questions people have. 32-bit versus 64-bit As the number of bits increases there are two important benefits. -More bits means that data can be processed in larger chunks which also means more accurately. -More bits means our system can point to or address a larger number of locations in physical memory. 32-bit systems were once desired because they could address (point to) 4 Gigabytes (GB) of memory in one go. Some modern applications require more than 4 GB of memory to complete their tasks so 64-bit systems are now becoming more attractive because they can potentially

Enable Windows 8 Hibernate Option

Hibernation is a feature of an operating system which allows the contents of RAM to be written to the hard disk, before powering off the computer. When the computer is started again, it reloads the content of memory and attempts to restore to the same state as it was before shutdown. For example, if you have 5 documents open before hibernating, the system will resume with the same documents opened on your desktop. In other words, your system will resume from where you left it. The Windows 8 has come with a lot of changes which users are finding a bit annoying. One such feature was the hiding of Windows Shut Down and Restart option. We even received a comment from a user who asked us how to Shutdown Windows 8. Frankly speaking I don’t blame him because the new Windows 8 seems to have been created more like a Tablet OS and for this reason some options are not that easy to find and enable. Despite the fact that the Shutdown, Restart and Sleep options are enabled in Windows 8, the Hib

Add a Custom Background Image to Your Windows 8 Start Screen

Like most new things, the Start Screen in Windows 8 has its adorers and detractors, but either way you slice it—it's here to stay. I'm still getting used to the Start Screen, so I'm not sure if it's a love or hate feeling yet, but I do know one thing—I want my own background! For some strange reason, you can only change the Start Screen's background image in Windows 8 to one of Microsoft's preloaded wallpapers. Sure, it's got some cool layouts and color schemes… But on every single past version of Windows you had unlimited customization options, so why get rid of something as easy as a personalized wallpaper? The desktop in Windows 8 does allow you add a customize background wallpaper. Simply  right-click  anywhere on the desktop and click on Personalize . That will bring up your  Personalization  options. Then all you have to do is change the  Desktop Background  to whatever you want. So, why not the Start Screen? Fortunately, the
